★ Overview
BAOBHAN SITH
The Baobhan Sith, also spelled Baobhan Sith or Baobhan Sidhe, is a mythical creature from Scottish folklore. Often called the Scottish Succubus or the Highland Vampire, she is a predatory fae who targets lone hunters and travelers in the wilderness. The name “Baobhan Sith” is Gaelic, with “baobhan” meaning “pale” and “sith” referring to a fairy or supernatural being. Baobhan Sith is often depicted as a beautiful and alluring woman. However, her true nature is revealed when she is angered or her prey discovers her supernatural identity. In some versions, she is said to have deer hooves instead of human feet.
The Baobhan Sìth is a beautiful, malevolent fairy woman. Unlike the classic “undead” vampires of Eastern Europe (like Dracula), she is a spirit of the Sidhe (the fae). She doesn’t rise from a coffin; she rises from the earth, usually at twilight.
They haunt the wild moors and wooded paths at night, appearing as groups of ethereal, beautiful women in long green dresses. They target lone hunters or travelers, inviting them to dance or share a fire. Once the victim is entranced by their hypnotic movement, the Baobhan Sith reveals her true nature—not biting the neck, but using long, needle-sharp talons to tear into the chest and drain the blood.
Origin & History
The name comes from the Scottish Gaelic baobh (meaning "wicked woman" or "witch") and sìth (meaning "fairy"). They represent the dangers of the untamed Scottish wilderness—where the beauty of the landscape can turn deadly in an instant.
The most common legend involves four hunters staying in a remote shieling (a hut). They wish for female company to dance with. Four women in green dresses appear. Three of the hunters dance until they are slaughtered, but the fourth notices the hooves beneath the skirts. He hides behind his horse (shod in iron), and the Baobhan Sìth circles him all night, unable to cross the "iron barrier" provided by the horse's shoes, until the sun rises and she vanishes.

- Shape-Shifting: While her primary form is that of a beautiful woman, some versions of the Baobhan Sith legend suggest that she has the ability to transform into other creatures, such as a raven or bat.
- Stealth: In some versions of the folklore, the Baobhan Sith is said to move with stealth, approaching her victims quietly and striking when they least expect it.
- Hypnotic Dancing: She lures men into dancing with her. Her beauty and grace are so intoxicating that the men don't notice they are being exhausted to the point of collapse.
